Robert Wadams Spewak Jr. was born on March 8th, 1971 to Bob and Sharon Spewak in Washington DC. Needless to say, they were disappointed.
“Robb” (as he is now called, to save time) had an unremarkable childhood, except that he could figure sales tax in his comically oversized head at age 8 and he had an unnatural addiction to television. One time he peed in an electrical outlet, which explains a lot. He avoided the out of doors and was not athletically inclined (this surprises nobody).
He graduated in 1989 from James Madison High School in Vienna, VA (“The Brownest City in the World”) with a letter in theatre (tragically, true.) So, he packed up his denim jacket and moved to Richmond, VA (“The Cradle of the Confederacy”).
Robb was able to complete the Virginia Commonwealth University (“We’re not a community college; we have dorms.”) curriculum in 4 dazzling years of academic excellence. 48 months of living on that campus without a gunshot wound is truly a fine achievement. Robb graduated Magna Cum Laude (Big Deal! It’s VCU!) in 1993, which meant he was now fully qualified to make fart jokes and berate listeners.
Robb started interning at Washington’s Superstation WJFK-FM in April of 1992 for The Don and Mike Show, and would go on to produce that show 3 times ( a world record!). Over the years, he did many jobs at the station (Deejay/ Board-op/Announcer/Infomercial host /Jester), but proudly relished every moment on The Don and Mike Show, which was the show that inspired him to get in the business in the first place.
After the final Don and Mike episode in 2008, Robb became Mike O’Meara’s “Sidekick” (that is really what his position was, according to the termination papers) on The Mike O’Meara Show. He enjoyed every moment of that, too, until the show was terminated, despite strong ratings and the best listeners in the world. CBS released Robb on August 14th, 2009 after 17 years.
Robb is also doing The Robb Spewak Show once a week for The Mighty KCJJ in Iowa City (Friday afternoons, 2 'til 6pm Eastern), and is having fun pretending to be a music jock. You can stream his show each week at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/kcjj-raw.
Robb is married (for 17 years, many of them happy) to his wife Cary. They have two kids: Julia (12) who is very smart, and Robert III (10) who is very strong. He also has never been more in love with his 73 inch High-Def Mitsubishi Television.
And yes, he really DOES own an actual piece of The Hindenburg. Do not judge him.
